This part really hit home for me:
Most folks work in an industry. Crypto is not an industry, crypto is a community. Both in the sense that people across the world come together to make a better financial system, but also as a cultural phenomenon. The community is composed of everything from anonymous monikers and bedroom heros from India, to high profile Silicon Valley veterans.
I would add that crypto is more like a community of communities. My memory is that from an anthropological perspective that would be labelled a tribe. Tribe though has some colonial vestiges and so sometimes folks seem to use ethnic group instead. But that’s not a fit because working in crypto and these online communities are not an ethnicity. Perhaps culture or sub-culture.
In any event, 18 months in to a startup in the crypto community, I couldn’t agree more. It IS a lot of fun.
